The Sofitel So Bangkok : an inspiring urban design hotel

Voted the “World’s Best City” by Travel + Leisure in 2012, Bangkok is one of the preferred destinations for international travellers, whether for business or pleasure. As the vibrant capital of exotic Thailand, it combines modern dynamism with classic wonder in a true meeting of East and West. So does the Sofitel So Bangkok.
An Urban Design Hotel

Located on the corner of North Sathorn and Rama IV roads, directly opposite the green expanse of Lumpini Park, the inner city’s green oasis, the Sofitel So Bangkok offers panoramic views of both the park and the city’s dramatic skyline.

The Sofitel So Bangkok is a masterpiece of collaboration by Thailand’s top design firms and an award-winning architect, enhanced by Monsieur Christian Lacroix’s exclusive range of designs. The hotel architecture was designed by Smith Obayawat of OBA Architect, fusing form with function to build a monument to contemporary sophistication. Sofitel So Bangkok rises 30 storeys up from the heart of the capital, its stunning facade staking its claim firmly on the city skyline.

Situated on the corner of North Sathorn and Rama IV roads, this exceptional high-rise property blends a mosaic of materials that give a contemporary, high-tech look while at the same time appearing accessible and inviting. Sitting on a glass, zinc and stone podium with strong clear definition, the tower is striking in its different metallic shades and shifting glazed and solid panels.

Inspiring accommodations

The Sofitel So Bangkok features 238 guestrooms and suites, ranging in size from 38 sqm to 138 sqm, with a three-metre-high floor-to-ceiling windows offering a choice of skyscraper views or prospects of Lumpini Park and the city beyond.

Distinguished as an urban design hotel, Sofitel So Bangkok themed accommodations have beee created around the Five Elements: Water, Earth, Wood, Metal, and Fire. This way, guests can choose their corresponding element to boost inner energy.

Created by Pongthep Sagulku of August Design, the Water element rooms feature an onyx bathtub next to the window and marble walls with a dark and mysterious tone that dims and stills the room to absorb the striking view of Bangkok from floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Earth element rooms by Vitoon Kunalungkarn are grounded in simplicity, in tune with Mother Nature, and decorated with Thai primeval wall paintings set against a ravishing blue that makes the rooms come alive while Nithi Sthapitanonda designed the Wood element rooms : wood and light interact to create space as art while the overall effect is a sense of calmness in contrast to the bustling city outside.

Somchai Jongsaeng of Deca Atelier has made the Metal element rooms simple and tranquil, immaculate spaces that are bright and welcoming through their different shades of white and sleek metallic details. Finally, Rujiraporn Wanglee of PIA Interior, with over 25 years’ design experience, used the Fire element in public areas and restaurants to create dynamic space for social interaction with a sense of warmth, energy, and playfulness.

Created in collaboration with Monsieur Christian Lacroix, these themed accommodations perfectly reflect the essence of Bangkok while offering advanced technology. With full facilities, including some of the hottest spots in the city for dining and socializing, Sofitel So Bangkok is set to be the talk of the town, the place where design meets pleasure, technology meets comfort, and people meet people.
