One crazy thrill seeker is set to make history today. After a morning of delays, Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian born skydiver, will attempt to be the first human to break the sound barrier unaided by a vehicle. Baumgartner will ride a ballon up to36.49km (22.68 miles) above Earth and free fall in order to achieve the incredible supersonic speed. At that altitude, Baumgartner is in a near-vacuum and should accelerate over 690 miles per hour (1110.65km/h) in just 40 seconds. In total, the journey back to earth should take approximately 10 minutes. Red Bull Stratos is sponsoring and organizing the event and is broadcasting a live stream of the supersonic sky dive for the world to see. You will not want to miss this incredible event.
"I love a challenge, and trying to become the first person to break the speed of sound in freefall is a challenge like no other."
